RENEB/EURADOS field exercise 2019: robust dose estimation under outdoor conditions based on the dicentric chromosome assay

Purpose Biological and/or physical assays for retrospective dosimetry are valuable tools to recover the exposure situation and aid medical decision making. To further validate improve such biological assays, in 2019, EURADOS Working Group 10 RENEB performed a field exercise Lund, Sweden, simulate various real-life scenarios.Materials methods For dicentric chromosome assay (DCA), blood tubes were located at anthropomorphic phantoms positioned different geometries irradiated with 1.36 TBq 192Ir-source. each condition, dose estimates provided by least one laboratory four conditions 17 participating laboratories. Three radio-photoluminescence glass dosimeters placed tube assess reference doses.Results The DCA results homogeneous between participants matched well doses (?95% of within ±0.5 Gy reference). samples close source systematic underestimation could be corrected accounting time. Heterogeneity was detected as estimates.Conclusions able successfully estimate provide important information on scenarios under closely resembling situation.
